Abstract

Seven horses, including three females and four males, were found to present compressive spinal cord lesions in the cervical region (Wobbler syndrome) between segments C1 and C7, as well as morphological alterations (cervical vertebral malformations) in the affected vertebrae. These horses were housed in stalls and had no history of trauma. In all animals examined clinically and radiographically, equine cervical vertebral malformation (ECVM) was found in association with Wobbler syndrome, indicating a strong correlation between the two findings and suggesting a possible etiological role of ECVM in non-traumatic cases of Wobbler syndrome.
