Tibial plateau levelling osteotomy to treat cranial cruciate ligament rupture: Case report

The aim of this study was to present a case of rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament (RLCCr) in a 5-year-old SRD dog, weighing 29 kg, with a history of lameness of the MPE (left pelvic limb), surgically treated using the leveling osteotomy of the tibial plateau technique (TPLO). Upon physical examination, it was found that the animal did not have pain on abdominal palpation and that the affected limb was sensitive to palpation. Performing the tibial compression test and drawer test, both positive, the presence of complete rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament was then diagnosed. Surgical treatment was performed using the TPLO technique to reduce the angle of the tibial plateau and stabilize the joint. Postoperatively, physiotherapy and biweekly follow-up were indicated to assess the return of limb function.
