Abstract

Brazil is a major exporter of products of animal origin, and due to the great demands of the international market, the country is having to adapt to new forms of production, not only for export, but also for internal commercialization. Sheep farming products have been gaining space both in the domestic and foreign markets and, with that, the attention for producers of this species as well, with consumers looking for increasingly “cleaner” food and within animal welfare standards. This work brings a bibliographic review on animal welfare within sheep farming in Brazil, showing the main paths to it within the breeding systems of this species.
