Splenic myelolipoma in a canine: Case report

Myelolipomas are relatively rare neoplasms and are usually related to the adrenal glands, and may also develop in other organs. The aim of this paper is to relate a case of a canine, male, SRD, 15 years old, 7.4 kg, not neutered, attended at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Passo Fundo with a complaint of intense abdominal pain and vomiting. Abdominal ultrasound showed a right kidney with altered anatomical shape and the presence of an oval, heterogeneous structure located in the splenic body. The patient was forwarded for surgical procedure for renal cyst drainage with capsule removal, and for total splenectomy. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of splenic myelolipoma. The animal was remarkable after the surgical procedure. Splenic myelolipomas are benign neoplasms, it is important to perform the ultrasound examination to visualize the neoplasm and pre-definitive diagnosis, as well as histopathological examination for definitive diagnosis, since the surgical procedure is curative.
