Abstract

Fibrosarcoma are among the most common neoplasms of the oral cavity in dogs. They are locally invasive tumors with a low incidence of distant metastasis. The recurrence rate following treatment is considered high. The most frequently observed clinical sign is enlargement of the oral mass. Diagnosis is confirmed by cytological and histopathological examinations. Diagnostic imaging, including radiography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, is recommended to assess the extent of the lesion and investigate the presence of metastases. Surgical excision of the tumor and adjacent tissues, including procedures such as mandibulectomy or maxillectomy, is the treatment of choice. Electrochemotherapy may be used as an adjuvant therapy and has shown high efficacy in local disease control. This study aimed to report a case of recurrent oral fibrosarcoma in a six-year-old female Border Collie, emphasizing the surgical technique employed and the application of electrochemotherapy to the surgical bed. The patient presented with an oral cavity nodule. Radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations revealed no evidence of metastasis. Cytological evaluation suggested fibrosarcoma, and a left caudal hemimaxillectomy was performed, followed by electrochemotherapy. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of oral fibrosarcoma. The patient had an uneventful postoperative recovery, with no complications observed.
