Abstract

Integrative veterinary medicine has gained increasing prominence in clinical veterinary practice as an adjunctive approach for the treatment of wounds and neurological and locomotor disorders. This case report describes the clinical improvement of an open wound in a dog treated with different integrative therapies associated with initial allopathic treatment. The patient was referred after presenting skin lacerations that failed to heal despite previous wound cleansing and topical treatment. Following thorough wound cleansing, part of the necrotic tissue was removed, and the wounds were irrigated again with the previously described solutions. Moxibustion was then performed, followed by ozone therapy with the subcutaneous administration of 20 mL of ozone around the wound, laser therapy using blue and green LED light, and finally the application of Vetaglós (Vetnil®) healing ointment. These procedures were performed at every treatment session, initially at two-day intervals, over a total treatment period of one month. The techniques used for acupoint stimulation promoted beneficial effects on blood cells, cytokines, and cutaneous cells involved in tissue repair while contributing to bacterial control, resulting in the healing of extensive contaminated wounds. The treatment lasted one month, during which no oral anti-inflammatory drugs, sedatives, or systemic antibiotics were administered.
