Polyp in the gastric cavity wall

Gastric polyps are abnormal epithelial formations, commonly with a pedunculated appearance, and are most frequently found in the antrum and pylorus. This report describes the case of a female dog treated at ANCLIVEPA, São Paulo (Brazil) for recurrent emesis and a history of gastritis, who underwent ultrasonographic monitoring that revealed a focal bulging of the gastric wall. Suspecting a gastric polyp, an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy with biopsy was performed. Histopathological examination revealed gastric mucosa with foveolar epithelial hyperplasia, mild fibrosis, and a lymphoplasmacytic inflammatory infiltrate, confirming the diagnosis of chronic hyperplastic antritis. This case highlights the importance of histopathological analysis for definitive diagnosis and therapeutic guidance in cases of gastric formations, even when clinical signs are nonspecific and lesions appear benign.
